Happy Aloha Friday! Now that I work in an office, I cherish my Fridays more than ever – especially because I feel like I really earned my weekend.
Now that I have money to go out, it’s funny that I spend my weekends hiking, going beach, or running errands. Or, depending on how I feel, doing absolutely nothing. And it’s glorious.
Anyways, this Friday I decided to be a little proactive (or insane) and do something I’ve always wanted to do – a half marathon! I did a 13k last year and loved it, so why not take it up a notch? Or a whole 5 miles, to be exact?
I signed up for the Holiday Half Maraton in San Diego, California this winter. I always go back home for Christmas, and my dad loves doing sprint triathlons, so doing a half marathon is right up his alley.
Plus, ill have a training buddy and it’ll be something we can do together. He’s the one who taught me to dedicate some of my life to fitness, and as I’ve gotten older, it’s a special bond we share.
Ill be posting a training plan soon – since I’ve been sick, I’m probably going to start at a 8:30-9 min/mile for about 3 miles, and gradually increasing over the next few months.
The madness part of it isn’t just the 13 mile aspect, but the weather; during writer, San Diego is frickin freezing! Especially for an island girl like me that’s used to a 75 degree norm. But I’ll have to push though it no matter what.
So wish me luck! And hopefully ill be going on another gorgeous hike this weekend, so stay tuned for more pictures!
