In less than 24 hours, my man and I will be spending 4th of July on a 16-hour journey to Bali, Indonesia. We have no plans, little money to work with, and no idea what to expect. All we’ve heard are good things; that its a gorgeous island with a beautiful culture and some of the best waves in the world. It’s the closest thing to heaven on earth.
We do have a ride from the airport to our little budget hotel in Kuta, a 5 minute walk from legendary breaks and a short drive to places like Uluwatu – where we’ll have to jump into a cave and swim out to get to where the waves are booming.
Bali is incredible because it’s so inexplicably different than what we, as Americans, are accustomed to. There’s language barriers, Komodo dragons, sharks, cobras and countless other predators. But there’s also dolphins and monkeys to play with, plentiful waves to surf and ancient mountaintop temples to explore.
This trip is going to be absolutely incredible. But even though my man and I live together, and have done road trips and camping excursions here and there, I’m nervous. This will be our first real adventure into the unknown abyss of another country.
Despite my fears and stress about what to pack and what were going to do there, I couldn’t be more excited! My posts will definitely be less regular, but full of pictures and stories about this beautiful, magical island.
